　　劳拉生于一个马戏之家，她的童年大部分是和父亲比尔（Bill），一位职业小丑，以及他的舞台助手曼迪普（Mandeep）在巡演中度过的。她暗自渴望着一种更传统的生活。多亏她的初中老师帕特里夏（Patricia），劳拉终于能够实现梦想：去私立学校读书。在了解了这个新生的巨大潜力后，帕特里夏帮助劳拉通过了入学考试。劳拉的这种行为是对父亲的一种反抗。 　　对于有着波西米亚传统的比尔、一个自称新教徒的人来说，能够接受他的宝贝女儿像苹果一样，从家庭的大树上掉落到如此远的地方吗？
